St Edward's Mass

As well as the Missa Nova I have now written a very simple setting of the new Catholic Liturgy for unison voices. This is under consideration by the Liturgy Office at the moment. As I soon as I get news I will pass it on to you.

New Mass Setting has been given official approval

The Missa Nova, a setting of the new Catholic liturgy has been approved by the Liturgy Office for England and Wales. It is for amateur SATB choir and congregation, but can be performed just by cantor and congregation. The mass has been in use at St. Edward's and The Holy Name Catholic Church in Shaftesbury for some time and is working very well.

I am promoting a concert on 3rd May in the Blackledge Theatre, Salisbury. Featuring The Eberle Quartet, Hugh Hetherington and Tom Young, it will be a concert of chamber music and songs. More details to follow soon.

Motets and Anthems

Having enjoyed a summer of writing songs, I have had a great autumn and winter writing and anthems and motets. These are for SATB, either unaccompanied or for organ(manuals only) and piano, Most last between 3 and 4 minutes. I will be uploading them soon.

Edward Thomas Songs

I have just uploaded a set of five songs for Baritone, settings of poems by Edward Thomas. Still some proofing to do but have a look and sing them through. See 'Songs'.

I am still waiting for copyright permission for another set of songs.

I have adapted one of my hymn settings into an SSA motet for Christmas and have also uploaded a lovely arrangement of 'Silent Night' for SA, Piano and two French Horns. See 'Motets' and 'Christmas'.

I was horrified to see how long it was since I last did an update! I have been doing plenty of composing however!

So what has been happening?

Hymns. I have never written any hymns before so it was very interesting to be given a set of Lyrics by the well-known hymn writer Timothy Dudley-Smith. Writing these has been very interesting and I will upload them as soon as I have sorted out copyright.

As well as hymns I have been working at songs. I will soon upload a set a five songs to lyrics by Edward Thomas have also been planning a larger set of songs by another poet. However this is also waiting for copyright.

I have also been working on sacred music with a simple setting of the new words to the Catholic Mass. This has been performed with great success.

I have also recently finished a short motet called þThe Sparrowþ. Which I have uploaded.

Thorough revision of the 5th Quartet has now taken place with a new 1st and 2nd movt. 6th Quartet draft now complete. This huge project is nearing completion with only final small revisions now needed. All quartets are available as scorch files with 1-4 and 6 as mp3s. Look under works in progress for 5 and 6

Robin Highcockÿs project of writing a set of six string quartets is no entering its final stages. String Quartet no 5 has been revised and is awaiting final polishing but can be found under Works in Progress. The rough drafts of the1st 4th and 5th movts of String Quartet no. 6 can also now be found in the same place. This huge and exciting challenge has already produced a huge range of music and with the last quartets nearing completion the variety is even greater. Look out for the final versions!

Sinfonia no. 2

Sinfonia no. 2, originally performed in 2001 has been revised, with a new first movment and extensive rewriting of the fourth and second movements. This will be performed in March. The score is to be found under Orchestral - Symphony

Robinÿs project to write a set of six quartets is proceeding well. The 2nd the 3rd and 4th movments are complete and now wait revision, the 1st and 5th movements are proceeding well.

The concert of Robin Highcockÿs music at St. Martinÿs Church Salisbury was a great success. Supported by an enthsiastic audience the performers produced a vibrant musical evening showing the breadth and depth of Robin Highcockÿs music

A lot of work has been done to provide listeners with much more more depth and detail.

Most scores are now complete and mp3s contain complete recordings.

If you donÿt have Scorch on your computer it is quite easy to download, or, alternatively you can listen to the mp3s of Robin Highcockÿs music.

Sound of Barra expanded

The Sound has Barra has now been expanded for a full-size orchestra. Various alterations hava also been made to the second section. The new scoring is 2Fl/Picc, 2 Ob/CA, 2Cl, 2 Fag, 4 Horns, 2Tpt, 3 Tromb, Tuba, Timpani, Percussion (1 player) and Strings. Look in Orchestral music under Sound of Barra (Full)
